Retreats and Restoration By Connie Cameron
A few weeks ago I lamented to my friend, Connie, that I felt the need for a little “get away”. It had been too long since I had been on a vacation, and after the intense two years of focusing on the prisoner devotional book my soul longed for a period of restoration. “Let me see what I can do about that,” Connie
responded.I really didn’t expect anything to transpire outside of maybe getting a few of us together for lunch and laughter. So when I received her email detailing a local overnight getaway at a retreat center for two days and a night, I let out a giggle! It sounded perfect.Connie had stayed at this place several times and loved it. The accommodations were inexpensive and the chef was highly bragged upon. She suggested packing our Bibles, journals, old magazines and comfy clothes.
The five of us introduced ourselves and shared why we felt the need to get away, and then we prayed for each other. Then Connie distributed a handout that encouraged us to grasp a vision for the New Year; to ponder what God was asking us to do for Him and how He might want to grow us in 2013. We each sought a private area for an hour or so and then came back together and shared. I wish I could say I was enlightened, but quite honestly I was still in a spiritual slump.
After lunch, Connie got out the old magazines, scissors, glue, and poster boards.
Hmmm, we’re gonna cut and paste? I wasn’t sure where she was going with this, or if I even wanted to participate. But, when Connie shared the personal insights she gained from making an annual poster/collage, it piqued my interest. Every year, for several years now, after seeking the Lord for the upcoming New Year, Connie prayerfully assembles God’s answer by creating a poster of what she senses He has laid on her heart. (She and her husband also make a poster together, encompassing their vision as a couple.) Connie then passed around her posters from previous years and I was enthralled. Each year had a different theme. “So many of these dreams and visions have come to pass,” Connie said. “Many items had been on my ‘Bucket List’, too.” My dear friend’s excitement as she invited us to participate was contagious. While flipping through magazines for several hours, chatting and laughing at the same time with the girls, I became amazed at how certain words and pictures jumped out at me. A twinge of excitement for the future began stirring inside of my dormant spirit; it was as if I was coming back to life after a long hibernation. Adventures, hidden in my heart, such as taking a hot air balloon ride, were tacked to my poster. And simple phrases, such as:
“You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore,” by Christopher Columbus, were added, too. Way too soon our little retreat was over. We hugged each other, made our goodbyes, and promised to do this again. It’s been a week now and I still feel refreshed. My poster hangs invitingly in my office and I smile every time I look at it. I’m excited about the future, and… I’ve already put the retreat on my calendar for next January.

I think the food is always absolutely fabulous and there is always plenty of it. There is always a nice balance between veggies, starches, and protein.
The sleeping arrangements are fabulous. From what I have heard from people over the years, it seems that the only people who do not sleep well are the ones who do not sleep well away from home anywhere. I've never had a problem with temperature. You have to let the water run a bit to get warm. I do at home, too!! And, if the rooms get too warm, you open a window. We've even been there when it is hot and it is very reasonable.
Having all those nooks and crannies to go tuck away in for a little quiet time is so nice!! I love all those rooms even though I rarely take advantage of them!
The staff is amazing. Always very friendly and helpful. I know that if I don't see something, all I have to do is ask and they will get it for me. Always feel very welcome and enjoyed.
Our visits to Sts. Peter and Paul Retreat Center have always been Excellent!!! I LOVE this location!!!
I honestly can not think of anything that would improve our experience! I love this place and greatly appreciate all they do to make our time there so relaxing and comfortable. –- Group Retreatant

I didn't eat there but the previous time it was great. Overall I rate them excellent. They are friendly, accommodating & close. In warm weather they have the wooded trail for running/walking. If you forget something town is close. They even have a library with non-religious books. I love the option of having those side rooms for quiet. I come for the company though. –- Group Retreatant

The food is always great. I never walk away feeling like there wasn't enough, if anything I always worry they fixed too much!
The facilities are wonderful. If we got to warm in the crop area, then we cracked a window or two. Never had an issue in the bedrooms. No issue with the bathroom at all. I love that I don't have to bring a towel and wash cloth with me. Makes packing that much easier, especially on the way home. No worry about a wet washcloth in the suitcase.
The staff goes above and beyond to ensure we have everything we want/need. I agree with what was said about them getting the extra things we might need such as extension cords. Or adding additional routers to make sure we had good internet service.
Excellent !!!
I can't think of anything they could do to improve. Seems like they are always a step ahead of what we might need/want, ie routers in the crop area, extra extension cords.
There are so many pluses to this retreat center, the biggest being the location. It is so easy to run home when you forget something or have a commitment. I love that we are able to get to Kroger, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, etc so easily. –- Group Retreatant

The food is very good; we have a nice variety of meals, a good mix of protein, carbs, and fruits and vegetables. There is always more than enough food. The rooms are very nice. The staff is wonderful! I can't say enough about how they go above and beyond what most facility staffs would do. I would rate my visit excellent. –- Group Retreatant

The food is great! There are plenty of options and always more than enough food. My favorite meal is the brunch on Sunday.
Guest rooms and bath or good. Being able to control the temperature in the guest rooms is nice.
Having the additional rooms is wonderful. It's nice to be able to go to one of the other rooms when I talk with my family, or if I have to take a call from work. It's also nice to sometimes step away and have some quiet time. Having the extra rooms available is an added benefit if a couple people want to go talk.
The staff is always wonderful! If we need something all we have to do is ask. Most of the time we don't even have to ask because they have already provided what we need. The North Hall and N106 are always set up exactly as we ask, even when we've had some very different table arrangements. The extension cords and power strips are provided so that we have everything we need to get set up. –- Group Retreatant

Once again, the staff outdid themselves to make our annual family event perfect! Thank you, thank you, thank you! --Group Retreatant
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I Just wanted to send a quick note and thank you for your hospitality and heart of welcome for our event this past Saturday. Everything that we asked for was there and ready for us, and I appreciate that level of professionalism. The event went really well. We have received a lot of feedback of how people were deeply impacted by the message that was shared. We hope that translates into transformation for the Kingdom of God. Abundant blessings on you and your organization. Until we meet again! :D)
